The Oxford Piano Festival is held annually in Oxford, UK. It is one of the few educational courses to film almost every session during their festival. This allows us to hear a wealth of extremely interesting piano classes given by renowned pianists. All of this is at our fingertips on YouTube.

Russian pianist Nikolai Luganksy has been a favourite for many years, and I appreciate and admire his Rachmaninoff readings. In this class, he discusses Chopin’s Second Sonata in B flat minor Op. 35 and the Scherzo in B flat minor Op. 31, Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux Op. 39 No. 1 and 9, and Prokofiev’s Fourth Piano Sonata Op. 29. This particular festival was held at the JdP Music Building, St Hilda’s College, Oxford, in July 2023. I previously published a master class with Lugansky around seven years ago, but this one is a more in-depth session, and I do hope you enjoy it.
